The body is there.
But is that person really there?
Here, but Not Here explores the gap between the physical presence of a body or image and the sense that a person is actually “there.”
The exhibition began with an experience of seeing my own legs underwater and, for a moment, perceiving them as someone else’s body.
Through water, reflections, blur, fragmented bodies, still and moving images, and the displacement between physical objects and their images,
the works place the human figure in a state that cannot be fixed as either “present” or “absent.”
As viewers approach the works, peer into them,
and move through the exhibition space, the boundary between presence and absence becomes unstable,
raising questions about how we perceive the existence of others—and of ourselves.
